Mistral AI Visits South Korea for Samsung HBM and AI Chip Talks

Paris-based Mistral AI is extending its sovereign-AI strategy into the Middle East, where governments want greater local control over models, data and computing capacity. HUMAIN, launched on May 12, 2025 by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, operates across data centers, cloud services and advanced AI models. The partnership matters because it supports Riyadh’s push to build a domestic AI industry while reducing concentrated reliance on European and U.S. infrastructure.

Mistral AI and HUMAIN announced the partnership on Aug. 24, 2026, valuing the collaboration at hundreds of millions of euros without disclosing an exact figure or delivery timetable. Their work will span AI infrastructure, advanced-model development and regional deployment, initially targeting cybersecurity and voice applications alongside frontier models optimized for Arabic. Mistral will also explore using HUMAIN’s Saudi data-center capacity for local computing needs, while the companies plan a joint go-to-market strategy for regulated industries in the kingdom.

Founded in Paris in 2023, Mistral has emerged as one of Europe’s most prominent artificial intelligence startups, developing large language models as a regional alternative to US-led platforms such as OpenAI. Microsoft’s investment and partnership with the company, announced in February 2024, raised Mistral’s international profile and underscored Europe’s drive to build greater technological sovereignty in generative AI.

Samsung is in talks to invest as much as €1 billion in Mistral in a transaction that could value the French AI company at about €20 billion, according to recent reports. Discussions remain ongoing and the terms could still change. A deal would give Mistral additional capital to expand model development and computing capacity, while helping Samsung deepen its position in the global AI ecosystem beyond partnerships dominated by US technology groups.
