Hontai Life Expands Microinsurance and Small-Amount Whole-Life Coverage for Taiwan’s Aging Society

1 reports · First detected 2026-03-15 · Last active 2026-03-15

Taiwan became a super-aged society at the end of 2025, with people aged 65 or older accounting for more than 20% of the population. Economically disadvantaged and middle-aged or older people who cannot afford conventional commercial insurance are more vulnerable to financial shocks when accidents or deaths occur in the family. Microinsurance provides specific disadvantaged groups with one-year, low-premium coverage, while small-amount whole-life insurance helps close protection gaps for older people through lifelong coverage.

Hontai Life Insurance said on March 15, 2026, that it would continue promoting both policy-backed insurance products. Since 2015, the company has worked with the A Kernel of Wheat Foundation and the Lioujiao Township Office in Chiayi County to connect eligible people with coverage. Under current rules, cumulative coverage is capped at NT$500,000 each for micro term-life and accident insurance, while the maximum for small-amount whole-life insurance has been NT$900,000 since May 1, 2023.
