Ethereum Foundation Releases Policy Guide for Governments and Institutions
Governments and financial institutions often rely on centralized providers when developing digital identity systems, public records and tokenized assets, potentially creating operational and governance risks. The Ethereum Foundation argues that public blockchains, maintained collectively by distributed validators, can serve as more neutral public digital infrastructure resistant to control by a single party.
The Ethereum Foundation’s global policy strategy team released its “Ethereum for Governments and Institutions” policy guide on July 1, 2026, urging policymakers to distinguish decentralized public blockchains from networks controlled by companies or foundations. The report said Ethereum has operated continuously since its 2015 launch. As of March 2026, about $76 billion worth of ETH was staked to help secure the network.
