Australian Entrepreneur Uses ChatGPT and AlphaFold to Develop Personalized mRNA Cancer Vaccine for Dog

In May 2024, Rosie, the eight-year-old dog of Australian AI consulting firm founder Paul Conyngham, was diagnosed with malignant mast cell cancer that failed to respond to chemotherapy or surgery. Conyngham used ChatGPT to devise a treatment plan and AlphaFold to analyze mutated proteins, while bringing in the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The case shows how AI, genetic sequencing and mRNA technology can shorten the development timeline for personalized therapies.

Conyngham paid $3,000 to sequence Rosie's genome. A team led by Pall Thordarson at UNSW's RNA Institute produced the vaccine in less than two months, and a University of Queensland veterinary team administered the first dose in December 2025 and a booster in February 2026. Rosie's energy improved after about six weeks of treatment, and her largest tumor shrank by 75%, though another tumor did not respond. Because she also received immunotherapy, the outcome remains a single case and cannot be considered a cure.
