ASML Moves Into Advanced Packaging With New AI Chipmaking Equipment
ASML is the global leader in extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment, whose systems are critical to mass-producing advanced chips. As AI processors integrate more chiplets, advanced packaging has become essential to improving performance and bandwidth. ASML's move beyond its core lithography market reflects intensifying competition among equipment makers for opportunities in AI chip manufacturing.
ASML recently said it would develop advanced-packaging tools and equipment for manufacturing next-generation AI processors, while incorporating AI into its existing products and inspection processes. Its chief executive also expects chip supplies to remain tight over the long term. As of July 2026, ASML had not disclosed the investment, product models or mass-production timetable for the new equipment.

ASML Taiwan’s general manager recently unveiled the company’s technology roadmap for the AI era. The company plans to use next-generation EUV and High-NA EUV systems to increase chip capacity and optimize manufacturing processes while expanding its Taiwan operations. ASML expects to hire about 1,000 new employees in Taiwan in 2026 to strengthen its technical services and research and development capabilities, further reinforcing Taiwan’s pivotal role in the global advanced-process supply chain.
