Monad Proposes Wallet Upgrade to Counter Lost Keys, Quantum Threats
Monad, an Ethereum-compatible layer-one blockchain, is seeking to address a longstanding weakness in crypto wallets: control is typically tied to a private key that cannot be replaced without moving assets to a new address. Separating an account’s address from its authentication key could make recovery easier and provide a path to stronger cryptography if quantum computers eventually threaten widely used digital-signature systems.
Monad has proposed a wallet upgrade that would allow users to replace the keys controlling an account while retaining the same address, avoiding the need to transfer assets or notify counterparties of a change. The design is intended to support Passkeys, account-recovery tools and post-quantum security protections. The plan remains a proposal, and the report did not specify a launch date, implementation timetable or financial amount.
