Chime Considers Stablecoin Wallet for Banking App
Chime Financial is a US financial technology company that provides banking services through The Bancorp Bank and Stride Bank. It had 10.2 million active members as of March 31, 2026, giving any embedded crypto product a sizable distribution channel. Deposits held at its partner banks may receive Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. coverage of as much as $250,000 per depositor, while the protections that would apply to stablecoin balances remain unclear.
Chime has asked blockchain companies to submit proposals for a stablecoin wallet within its consumer banking app, according to an Aug. 14, 2026 report. The feature could allow members to send and receive stablecoins and other digital assets without opening a separate account. The project remains under consideration, with no provider, supported tokens, investment amount or launch date disclosed. Chime previously joined more than 100 institutions supporting Open Standard, the group behind the planned Open USD stablecoin.
