LandMark Wins Four-Year U.S. Laser Deal as AI Optics Demand Surges
AI data centers are shifting toward co-packaged optics, or CPO, which places optical engines closer to computing chips to reduce power use and latency as transmission speeds rise. High-power continuous-wave lasers provide the external light source for silicon-photonics links, making them a critical component of the architecture. Tight laser capacity has therefore emerged as a potential bottleneck for AI infrastructure and raised the strategic value of epitaxial-wafer suppliers.
LandMark Optoelectronics said it would expand capacity after securing a four-year continuous-wave laser supply agreement with an unidentified U.S. customer. The report did not disclose the signing date, capital-spending amount or contract value. The announcement sparked gains among Taiwan-listed optical-communications and silicon-photonics shares, while investors also turned to Win Semiconductors as a possible beneficiary of outsourced production. Any spillover orders for Win Semiconductors remain market speculation and have not been confirmed by the company.
