Mastercard, Borderless.xyz Pilot Crypto Credentials for Stablecoin Transfers
Stablecoins can move value across borders around the clock, but fragmented identity checks, compliance requirements and wallet compatibility remain barriers to institutional adoption. Mastercard introduced Crypto Credential in April 2023 to establish common verification standards and later activated peer-to-peer pilot transactions in May 2024. Its work with Borderless.xyz extends that trust framework toward payment infrastructure linking on-chain assets with regulated local banking rails.
As of Aug. 6, 2026, Mastercard and Borderless.xyz have begun a cross-border stablecoin payments pilot designed to let participating institutions rely on shared verification results and confirm recipients and asset compatibility before funds move. Borderless.xyz connects more than 14 licensed providers across over 95 countries and supports more than 63 currencies, while Mastercard’s payments infrastructure reaches over 210 countries and territories. The companies did not disclose the pilot’s transaction value or a timetable for a broader commercial rollout.

The history behind this eventMastercard Expands Onchain Stablecoin Settlement to Advance Always-On Finance
Stablecoins use fiat-currency reserves to maintain a value of about $1 per token and can be transferred around the clock on blockchains. Unlike card transactions, which remain constrained by banking days and batch settlement, onchain rails can reduce delays in cross-border payments, corporate treasury transfers and disbursements. Mastercard serves more than 200 countries and territories, making its adoption significant.
Mastercard said on June 3, 2026, that it was adding intraday, weekend and holiday settlement for USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP, RLUSD and SoFiUSD across eight blockchains. ARQ, CBW Bank, Cross River, Lead Bank and Nuvei will be the first adopters in the United States and Latin America, with further expansion planned during the year. The company did not disclose its investment or projected settlement volume.
Mastercard, Chainlink Open Onchain Crypto Access to 3.5 Billion Users
Mastercard is one of the world’s leading payment networks, while Chainlink provides cross-chain connectivity and external data services for smart contracts. Their partnership links credit card payments to decentralized exchanges and liquidity pools, lowering technical barriers to onchain crypto purchases for more than 3.5 billion cardholders. The move also reflects traditional finance’s accelerating push into onchain commerce.
Mastercard and Chainlink announced the partnership on June 24, 2025, integrating multiple payment-routing engines, decentralized liquidity pools and onchain infrastructure. Users can buy crypto assets directly with their cards, while the system handles fiat payments, asset conversion and onchain settlement. Cardholders can then interact with smart contracts. No transaction value was disclosed.
Mastercard Secures New York BitLicense to Advance Stablecoin and Digital Payments Infrastructure
The New York State Department of Financial Services has administered the BitLicense regime since 2015, imposing consumer-protection, cybersecurity, anti-money-laundering and operational-resilience requirements on virtual-currency businesses. The license allows Mastercard to expand its regulated digital-asset operations in New York and connect stablecoins and tokenized deposits to its existing global payments network.
On May 27, 2026, NYDFS granted a BitLicense to Mastercard Transaction Services (U.S.) LLC. Financial details related to the license were not disclosed. Mastercard had previously agreed on March 17 to acquire stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK for up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in contingent payments, strengthening its technical capabilities for subsequent payments and settlement integration.
Mastercard Launches Crypto Partner Program With Binance and Ripple to Advance Blockchain Payments
Mastercard is bringing cryptocurrency companies into its existing payments ecosystem as it seeks to connect blockchain technology with its global card-network infrastructure. The initiative focuses on cross-border transfers, business payments and global disbursements. It signals that traditional financial networks are beginning to integrate digital-asset services through partnerships instead of building separate, closed systems.
Mastercard has launched its new Crypto Partner Program with an initial group of more than 85 companies, including Binance, Ripple and PayPal. The partnerships cover blockchain payments and money transfers. Mastercard has not disclosed the amount of investment, a formal rollout date or each participant’s role. The program’s success will depend on product deployment and regulatory progress.
