Insurers Move Generative AI Into Underwriting Workflows

1 reports · First detected 2026-09-01 · Last active 2026-09-01

Insurers are shifting generative AI from experimentation into core workflows as they seek faster, better-informed underwriting and claims decisions. The technology is proving most useful in language-heavy tasks such as reviewing broker submissions, engineering surveys, policy wordings and customer correspondence. Industry executives say its value lies in helping experienced staff process unstructured information at scale, while keeping humans accountable for decisions that affect businesses and livelihoods.

FinTech Global reported on Aug. 31, 2026, that 48% of insurers surveyed by Celent had generative AI in production, with adoption expected to exceed half by year-end. Matthew Twist, vice president for EMEA at Earnix, said an effective tool could digest roughly 200 pages of submission material without overlooking important details. KYND co-founder Melanie Hayes cautioned that fluent summaries cannot compensate for incomplete or outdated risk data. No investment amount was disclosed.
