Amazon Expands Health AI Assistant to All US Customers
Amazon completed its $3.9 billion acquisition of primary-care provider One Medical on February 22, 2023, and integrated it with Amazon Pharmacy and AWS infrastructure. Health AI is built on a multi-agent architecture using Amazon Bedrock and can access medical records with users' consent. The move extends Amazon's e-commerce gateway into healthcare services while drawing greater attention to privacy and clinical safety.
Amazon announced on March 10, 2026, that Health AI would expand beyond One Medical members to Amazon.com and Amazon App users across the United States, with access rolling out over several weeks. Available around the clock, it can explain test results and medical records, manage prescription renewals and book appointments. Eligible Prime members can receive up to five message-based consultations at no charge, covering more than 30 common conditions and worth as much as $145.

AWS launched Amazon Connect Health on March 5, 2026, with five AI agents. Patient verification and ambient clinical documentation became generally available, while the other three capabilities entered preview. Clinical documentation costs $99 per user per month and includes 600 visits. In testing, UC San Diego Health saved one minute per call, freed up 630 hours per week and reduced its call-abandonment rate by 30%.
Amazon, Perplexity and OpenAI Vie to Become Healthcare’s AI Gateway
Competition in consumer healthcare AI is shifting from answering health questions to controlling the gateway to the care journey. Amazon, OpenAI, Microsoft, Perplexity and Function all aim to connect personal health data, medical information and follow-up services. The company that captures a user’s “first click” will have a better chance of steering referrals, appointments and long-term health management.
In the latest development, Amazon expanded its Health AI agent from the One Medical app to Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app. Perplexity launched Perplexity Health, while Function introduced a health data connector. Other offerings include OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health and Microsoft’s Copilot Health. The report did not disclose exact launch dates, user figures or investment amounts.
