Allianz Taiwan Launches Active Asian Semiconductor ETF

The rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence and large language models is driving demand for graphics-processing capacity, high-bandwidth memory and co-packaged optics. Asian chipmakers and component suppliers occupy critical positions across those bottlenecks, giving investors targeted exposure to the expansion of AI infrastructure through advanced manufacturing, memory and optical communications.

Allianz Global Investors Taiwan unveiled 00412A, Taiwan’s first actively managed exchange-traded fund focused on the Asian semiconductor industry. The ETF is scheduled to open for subscription on September 16 and will use active stock selection to invest across the regional supply chain, targeting long-term growth linked to GPU computing power, HBM and CPO technologies.

Generative AI is fueling demand for data centers, advanced chips and cloud computing, while U.S. technology companies remain at the heart of global supply chains. Allianz Global Investors Taiwan is making its first foray into overseas active ETFs, aiming to use manager-led stock selection to target technology leaders with free cash flow, competitive moats and long-term growth potential. The approach is intended to reduce the concentration risk that can arise from simply tracking an index.

The firm has launched the Allianz U.S. Technology Leaders Active ETF (00402A), with fundraising scheduled to begin on May 22. Its investment themes include generative AI, semiconductors and related upstream and downstream supply chains. Stock selection will not rely solely on conventional price-to-earnings ratios. The fund will also assess corporate cash flow, industry position and the sustainability of earnings, actively adjusting its portfolio accordingly.
