Anthropic Expands Claude Cowork AI Agent to Web and Mobile

As generative AI matures, artificial intelligence is evolving from a simple question-and-answer assistant into an “AI agent” capable of acting autonomously. Anthropic’s Claude platform is at the forefront of this shift. AI agent infrastructure gives AI systems memory and the ability to perform complex reasoning independently, helping companies automate daily operations and fundamentally reshaping productivity in human-machine collaboration.

In July 2026, Anthropic disclosed for the first time how the Claude platform had evolved toward agentic capabilities over the previous six months. The company introduced “managed agents” with three core capabilities: memory, anticipating outcomes and planning. The technology has been used to transfer expertise at Urrea’s factory and support end-to-end development at Shopify, marking a shift by developers from rigid workflows toward collaborative strategies involving an Advisor.

Anthropic positions Claude Cowork as a desktop AI workplace agent that helps companies and professionals integrate AI into their daily workflows. Expanding its usage allowance could lower barriers to experimentation and help users develop new habits. The move also reflects Anthropic’s accelerating effort to challenge Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini.

Anthropic said it would double Claude Cowork’s usage allowance in each five-hour period for one month beginning June 5, 2026. The limited-time measure focuses on the desktop service, giving users more time and more workplace scenarios in which to test the AI agent. Anthropic hopes the initiative will further increase adoption among businesses and professionals.

Financial institutions account for about 40% of Anthropic's 50 largest customers, and finance is its second-largest source of enterprise revenue. On May 4, 2026, the company, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman and Goldman Sachs were reported to be forming a $1.5 billion AI services joint venture, underscoring Claude's growing role in highly regulated Wall Street workflows.

Anthropic released 10 financial-agent templates on May 5, 2026, covering investment-banking presentations, KYC reviews, general-ledger reconciliations and month-end closing. On April 23, 2026, Anthropic added connectors for 15 everyday apps, including Uber, Uber Eats, Spotify, Booking.com, Instacart, TurboTax, Resy and Tripadvisor. They can help users hail rides, order food, plan trips and file taxes. Financial terms of the partnerships were not disclosed. The features are available on all plans, although the mobile version remains in beta, and Claude will seek user confirmation before making a reservation or payment.

Anthropic’s Claude Cowork is a desktop agent workspace for knowledge workers, while its existing Artifacts have largely been static content generated during conversations. Live Artifacts turns charts and trackers into persistent, interactive HTML dashboards connected to enterprise apps and local files, allowing AI to move beyond one-off answers and play a greater role in daily monitoring and decision-making.

Anthropic launched Live Artifacts in Claude Cowork on April 20, 2026. Each time a dashboard is opened, it retrieves the latest data from authorized apps and local files, preserves versions and can also be refreshed manually. The features are available to Pro subscribers paying $20 a month and Max subscribers paying at least $100 a month, with support for macOS and Windows. The desktop must remain awake with Claude Desktop open, and both devices must stay connected to the internet.
